Private Outlander Tour from Edinburgh

Inside the 7-seat Mercedes-Benz V-Class used for the outlander tour

Full day ~8 hrs · half day ~4–5 hrs

A private Outlander tour from Edinburgh takes you to the filming locations at your own pace, in a chauffeur-driven 7-seat Mercedes-Benz V-Class. No coach timetable, no crowds to wait for: you choose the stops and how long you spend at each.

01

Culross (Cranesmuir)

The cobbled streets and ochre houses of Culross on the Fife coast became Cranesmuir, and the palace garden doubled as Claire's herb garden. It's one of the best-preserved 17th-century villages in Scotland and a lovely place to wander.

02

Midhope Castle (Lallybroch)

Midhope, on the Hopetoun estate near South Queensferry, is the tower house fans know as Lallybroch, the Fraser family home. Access to the estate is controlled, so I'll check current arrangements before your date.

03

Blackness Castle (Fort William)

Blackness Castle, shaped like a ship on the shore of the Forth, played Black Jack Randall's headquarters at Fort William. It's a dramatic stop with wide views of the bridges.

04

Linlithgow Palace (Wentworth Prison)

The ruined birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, Linlithgow Palace was used for Wentworth Prison. The loch and the town make it an easy place to stop for lunch.

Hotel or cruise-port pickup, and every stop is your choice.

05

Falkland (1940s Inverness)

Falkland village in Fife stood in for 1940s Inverness in the opening episodes, with the Covenanter Hotel playing Mrs Baird's guesthouse. Falkland Palace is next door if you'd like to add it.

06

Doune Castle (Castle Leoch)

Doune Castle near Stirling is Castle Leoch, seat of the MacKenzie clan, and also appears in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Game of Thrones. It pairs well with a Stirling day.

07

Suggested full-day route

A typical full day runs Midhope, Blackness and Linlithgow in the morning, then Culross and Doune in the afternoon, with Falkland as an option. If you only have a half day, Midhope, Blackness and Linlithgow fit comfortably into four or five hours and work well for cruise passengers.
